Floriade is a major international garden festival held in the Netherlands every ten years. In 2002 the choice of location fell on Hoofddorp. We designed a large (100 x 300 m) glasshouse for exhibitions of plants and flowers. Its other duties included the festival entrance, a business centre, an office and restaurants. A Venlo roof system sat atop the steel frame. When the steel structure was already in place it was decided to use photovoltaic panels for the roof. This would provide a power output of 2.3 MW. To install the PV panels required developing and testing a new aluminium system. The panels were to be added at changes of exhibitions and plantings. We also designed and coordinated all the units (business centre, restaurants and retail) assembled in the glasshouse. Everything was delivered on time and at no extra cost!
The Limburg Pavilion was our design too.
